*** JIMMER On-Line HELP ***
A)ll pointers reset ...
This selection lets you reset all the pointers in the conferences.
Resetting a conference's pointer makes all mail that would normally
be presented as 'NEW' since your last call as 'READ'. The results
are visible in the "L"ook for new mail selection where no new
messages will be reported after "A"ll pointers reset is executed.
B)ulletins included? [y/n] ...
The 'bulletins included' selection lets the user retrieve new
bulletins. It is a toggle. This means that repeated selections
of the "B" command turn this selection on and off. The current
selection is displayed in brackets as either "Y" or "N". These
choices mean either "Y"es, new bulletins will be included with
the download, or "N"o, new bulletins will not be included. "New"
bulletins are defined as those created since the date shown next
to them in the JIMMER main menu.
C)olor menus? [y/n] ...
The 'color menus' selection lets the user toggle on and off the
color screens. Also, ANSI codes are turned off if color is off.
The current selection is displayed in the square brackets as
either "Y" or "N". These choices mean either "Y"es, color and
ANSI are on or, "N"o, color and ANSI are not on.
D)ownload Mail Packet ...
The 'download mail packet' selection lets the user retrieve all
mail selections. To successfully use this menu item, a set of
conferences must be selected using the "S" command (see below). If
no conferences are selected, an error message will appear telling
the user that s/he must first select some conferences to download.
After the download has occurred, the high message pointer for
each conference is updated to reflect the download.
E)rase selected conferences ...
The 'erase selected conferences' command lets the user "unmark" or
erase the conference selections set up using the "S" command.
F)ile list included? [y/n] ...
The 'file list included' selection lets the user retrieve new
file descriptions. It is a toggle. This means that repeated
selections of the "F" command turn this selection on and off.
The current selection is displayed in brackets as either "Y" or
"N". These choices mean either "Y"es, new file descriptions
will be included with the download, or "N"o, new file descriptions
will not be included. "New" file descriptions are defined as
those created since the date shown next to them in the JIMMER
main menu.
G)oodbye (logoff) ...
The 'goodbye (logoff)' selection lets the user drop carrier
without returning to the BBS. In effect, this selection just lets
the you hangup the phone.
<NOTE: This BBS may not support the G)oodbye option>
H)elp ...
You are reading it now! Ask your Sysop to update this file if you
feel you need more information on how to use JIMMER.
J)IMMER mode (download and goodbye) ...
The 'JIMMER mode' selection is just a combination of the
"D"ownload and "G"oodbye functions. This can be handy for BBSers
using scripts.
<NOTE: This BBS may not support the J)IMMER option>
K)eys ...
The "KEYS" command sets JIMMER's keys either "HOT" or "COLD". "HOT"
keys do not require you hit the 'ENTER' key to terminate the command.
"COLD" keys require the 'ENTER' key be pressed prior to JIMMER
processing the command. Menus that require you to enter conference
names, or responses that require more than one character are never
"hot".
L)ook for new mail ...
The 'look for new mail' command shows the user which conferences
have new mail waiting. This command functions much like the mail
scan within RBBS, but JIMMER's output does not include the "mail
for you" flag.
M)odify colors ...
You can change the colors of all parts of the JIMMER menu with the
"M" command. A secondary menu comes up and lets you pick the colors
for many of the prompts. You may also "highlight" (high intensity)
or remove highlighting (normal intensity) within the modify colors
menu.
N)ews file included? [y/n] ...
The 'news file included' selection lets the user retrieve new
news items. It is a toggle. This means that repeated selections
of the "N" command turn this selection on and off. The current
selection is displayed in brackets as either "Y" or "N". These
choices mean either "Y"es, new news items will be included with
the download, or "N"o, new news items will not be included.
"New" news items are defined as those created since the date
shown next to them in the JIMMER main menu.
P)rofile ...
The 'profile' selection lets you either save or recall your
profile from JIMMER. Your profile is a collection of your color
preferences, conference selections and download criteria, and main
menu JIMMER toggles. Use the profile function to avoid constantly
re-entering your settings while in the JIMMER door.
Also, if you change some settings while in JIMMER, and you find
you wish to restore them, you can recall your saved profile using
the profile command.
R)eturn to the BBS ...
The "R" command returns you to the host RBBS. JIMMER exists and
the DOOR batch file reloads the BBS.
S)elect conferences ...
The "S" command shows you a list of available conferences. You
may select one conference name at a time from the list and then
select from a sub-menu the criteria for selecting which mail to
include in the download. For instance, you can select all new
mail "S"ince your last call. You can receive "A"ll mail. You can
enter a number, "n" from 1 to 999 which will tell JIMMER to send
the last "n" messages in the conference. There are more choices.
Use the "S" command to see them all.
T)ransfer protocol? ...
You may select from "X"modem, "Y"modem, Ymodem-"G", and "Z"modem
protocols. JIMMER merely shells out to DSZ. If the protocol
selection shown on the JIMMER main menu is "NONE", you will be
prompted just before the transfer occurs to select protocol.
During this secondary prompt, you may choose to "C"ancel the
download. Ymodem-G is offered to all callers regardless of
the type of connect you achieve on the main BBS. Callers without
error checking hardware should not use Ymodem-G.
U)pload Mail Packet ...
The 'upload mail packet' selection lets the user send replies.
The user is immediately prompted to begin the upload after
entering "U". After the transfer is complete, the mail is
inserted into the appropriate conferences. The node id for
the BBS you are connected to is displayed for users who need
prompting to remember the name of the '.REP' packet.
<NOTE: You can ONLY upload mail into conferences that you have
already joined from within RBBS>
X)pert mode toggle ...
This menu eliminates much of the textual information that is
displayed within JIMMER. This is helpful for users with slower
modems so the repetitive displays and menus are not shown over and
over again. Once you have a feeling and knowledge of JIMMER's
menu selections, try this feature.
*) Set Date ...
This menu item lets you set the date so JIMMER knows how far back
to search for new news items, bulletins, and/or files. Use "S" if
you want JIMMER to look up your "date last called" so you always
get just the recent listings of these RBBS features.
